Not Pollock
But isn’t it strikingly similar? In the early 1980s, Mike Bidlo began to appropriate the Modern masters by focusing on the paintings of Jackson Pollock. He even hired a Pollock ‘look-alike’ to re-enact the drunken Pollock urinating in Peggy Guggenheim’s fireplace during a cocktail party at her apartment.
Pictured is Mike Bidlo’s 1983 work, Not Pollock. Place your bid online.

It is a dangerous place where we put ART, but sacred where we make it.

The Madness of Art

On this week’s episode of The Madness of Art
When the 13 year old son of a potential client challenges Jim to explain the meaning and importance of Post-Modern Art, he learns a lesson about the value of art instead.

Now, this artist is poor at explaining - keep in mind, even if a work of art is nothing more than your feelings towards something that is purely aesthetic, and you are good at technical skills but lack any fine or unique skills, the artwork is still a combination of objects and or images and all objects, images and things in the world have a symbolic side to them, even if it doesn’t match how you feel about the image, that’s the essence of art; that it can mean anything to anyone. This kid is being honest about what it means to him, showing that appreciation often has to be learned, and that’s not a bad thing, and also showing the artist react as though he realizes what I explained in the previous sentence.

Despite much of that being hinted at, at best, here, I like this video.

One of my favorite movies. Claymation is one of my favorite art forms, and it is so extremely well done in this movie.
