I live in Minnesota and we’ve already had our first frost during the night. The past few days have been in the 50’s and 60’s, of course, by Minnesota standards that’s still t-shirt weather. Regardless, I brought my potted garden indoors (okra, kale, collards, broccoli, a variety of peppers, and cucumbers), all except for the jalapenos and onions, I harvested them and left the rest of the plant outdoors, as neither of those do well at ALL indoors. My bf decided to leave his heirloom tomato plants outside and try to grow seeds indoors over the winter. I’ll keep everyone posted on how these all go.
Of course this meant lots of new little ‘friends’ in the house. I found one spider and one lady bug so far. That’s fine, we already have a house centipede that has been living in our kitchen for a year now. As long as it’s not deadly or unsanitary in any way, it’s welcome.
I picked some of the kale to boil for dinner earlier this evening. <3

Reblogging my own post, deal with it.
Ever wondered what exactly vegans eat? How much variety, or lack there of, they eat. What brands, what supplements and what meat and dairy imitations.
I’ve had enough questions about this to go finally get around to taking some photos and making a full list of what I keep in my kitchen. As you can see, on top of it being vegan, the vast majority of the food is organic, and almost 100% of it is from the U.S., and all of it is completely free of any and all artificial ingredients and preservatives.
Sorry the images uploaded small, if you are unable to zoom in and read the text just drag the images to your desktop and click them and zoom in on them that way.
Attention non-vegans, I realized I still have a couple things in my home that are not vegan and will never be used by me, but I would feel awful if I threw them away/wasted them, so I’m willing to give them away for free.
The first item is fish oil/omega 3 pills, from wild fish, mainly salmon, from a brand that has a good reputation for being sustainable and all-natural (Kirkland signature - anyone who knows Costco knows this is their brand, and for a bulk store, they are very good about being sustainable and all-natural.) The bottle does not expire for nearly 14 months from now, 11/13. These are dietary supplements primarily for the amino acids, and heart health. The bottle is still nearly full and I will give it out FOR FREE to someone who will use it. I do ask that you pay shipping, $10 within the U.S. and $20 outside of the U.S.
The second item is a lemonade powder mix that is not 100% vegan, it can be used for baking, or for mixing into water to make lemonade, or into alcoholic drinks to alter the flavor, it’s really fun, so I’m giving it out to someone who will use it. This one I will give away also FOR FREE, no shipping cost within the U.S. and a $5 shipping cost outside of the U.S. Or if you buy both items together the price of shipping on the 1st item is the only one that applies. Please consider and private note me if you are interested in either of these, I’d hate to completely waste them. Thank you!
Of course all these habits have been proven to drastically improve health and even prevent cancer, and I strongly encourage all 3 of these habits, but there are still a couple aspects that not everyone is aware of.
Veganism is the best diet you can have, IF you are doing it properly. As with every lifestyle change, you must do your research first.
Even if you’re not vegan or vegetarian, it’s still good to get your protein from a bunch of different foods- you don’t just have to stick to meat to get protein! :)
I am pretty open here about the fact that I eat a vegan diet, so I wanted to be upfront about some things.
First and foremost, my primary reason for veganism is to waste as little as possible while I’m alive, and then some, as I want to be cremated when I die, which will hopefully be in 75+ years, because of how toxic and destructive a buried casket with enough chemicals in it to preserve a human and keep all other lifeforms out is.
It’s not that I care to assume an animal’s emotions or have an issue with killing them, it’s that I have an issue with the illusion that is excess, an issue with taking more than we need, an issue with putting my health, and everyone’s water and land secondary to food don’t need to eat on an industrial level, it’s that I don’t wish to be part of the waste and destruction even if all I can do is keep it out of my own life.
I’m not only vegan, diet-wise, but make a point of only buying organic, avoiding packaging as much as possible, using plastic as little as possible, only buying packaging that is recyclable, not using BC pills, not buying bottled water, buying only biodegradable, non-toxic cat litter. Buying local food, buying seasonal food, keeping processed foods to a minimum, buying food only from farms in the U.S. Buying food only when I’m out of food, composting any unusable parts of my food, eating at restaurants extremely rarely (even a vegan restaurant statistically throws out 35% of their food, just like any non-buffet restaurant, buffets statistically throw out as much as 50%). Riding my bike when I don’t need to use my car, buying my clothes from thrift shops, buying my books from used stores, not owning any cleaning, hygiene, or other product with any artificial chemicals or that is not biodegradable, not owning napkins, paper towels or tissues.
However, along with my lifestyle for wasting as little as possible, this goes along with not throwing out my non-vegan clothing items. I own leather boots/heels/running shoes, fur scarves, leather gloves, and feather earrings. These are all gifts from others that I would be lying if I said I didn’t love, I love the items because of who they are tied to, who gave them to me, and I keep them because of that reason, and because they are toxic to the environment and will never biodegrade. This is why I sometimes feel I am a dietary vegan and not a lifestyle vegan. And even then, when I travel 800 miles each way to see my 94-year-old grandma on Thanksgiving after she spends days cooking everything herself, I’ll eat anything she cooks, I’ll eat anything for one meal out of the year over the idea of her ever thinking I didn’t appreciate every last little thing she does.
I also feel as though we wouldn’t be where we are today without any animal testing, or human testing (look it up, or message me for details and citations) as unethical as it was, we learned, when we learn we are obligated to move forward or be forced to stay in the same place.
I understand that there is probably not on single natural or artificial chemical compound that wasn’t tested on animals, and that even if the product itself was not tested on animals, the individual components likely were. My foundation makeup and occasional allergy pill are the extent of the artificial chemicals I use, minimally.
I think the best explanation for myself is that I live a ‘green lifestyle’.
A campaign led by Rainforest Foundation Norway has led to a massive reduction in palm oil consumption in the Scandinavian country. The campaign received extensive media coverage, resulting in increased consumer awareness. Norwegian food producers responded rapidly, significantly reducing their use of palm oil.
To find out more about palm oil’s devastating impact on the environment visit the Vegans Against Palm Oil page on Facebook.
Food is alive. It’s meant to die. Preservatives are unnatural. This is disgusting.
In other words, artificial food isn’t food, and you have no idea how old it is. If it doesn’t break down in HALF A YEAR, what makes you think your body can digest it in a matter of hours? It wont, because it can’t.

These poor green peppers might be allowed to live out their lives, but they still are clearly terrified as they are about to be killed.
Vegetables are often picked apart while still alive, and are either eaten raw after being soaked in water, or are sliced, or even cooked. Some people prefer to eat them while they are still alive and raw to get the most nutrients.
Often times the whole plant isn’t even eaten. Watermelon are cut open and the insides are removed, potatoes have their eyes cut off and are often skinned and are then put in a fryer or an oven. Artichokes simply have their hearts cut out and the rest is left unused, usually after they are boiled whole.
I mean, look how scared they are!
I just want you to know what they do to vegetables… Because it’s delicious!
Newsflash, rebloggers: This is called joking, obviously.
I’m not going to demand that you drop everything to look at this. I am not going to say you don’t have a heart if you don’t reblog this.
But please, if you do have the time, I would greatly appreciate it if you read this post, and perhaps considered either donating a small amount or commission me, or at the very least help to spread the word around. Because frankly I need all the help I can get right now.
This is Sebastian, one of two black cats I own. He is a siamese mix and around 3 to 4 years old, sweet, curious, fun-loving, and the biggest love bug you will ever meet. These pictures were taken not even an hour ago when I had to leave him at the vet’s office overnight.
Earlier this afternoon, Sebastian got a hold of one of my sewing needles and managed to swallow it before I could get it away from him. Being the responsible pet parent that I am, I rushed off to a 24 hour emergency care center for animals right away, and after some debate, I agreed to have them try performing an endoscope procedure to see if they can pull the needle out of his stomach as quickly and as non-invasively as possible. However, the procedure is still going to be expensive, at least $2,757.39 on the low end (if things go as well as they possibly can), and $3,241.20 on the high end.
I am really hoping it goes as well as it can, and there are no complications, because if the needle happened to tear at his insides he will need surgery. Which will no doubt add another hefty amount to his bill.
I am a young student who is unemployed, living in a tiny studio apartment with a roommate and surviving off of what money my mother can give me.
Even with the Care Credit I qualified for, which lets me pay the amount interest free over a 6 month period, that still means I need to fork out at least $300 extra dollars a month to pay his bill on time.
So friends, fandom followers, fellow Tumblrites, I need help. If you are capable of donating any amount you can afford, please, I gladly welcome it. If you would prefer, I am also taking small art commissions. I don’t have much uploaded on Tumblr, but please refer to my art tag for some examples of the art skill I possess.
Commissions will be done in a bust/upper body shots, since that is where I am most confident and will be more able to turn out pictures as fast as I can.
Pricing is as follows:
Pencil sketch - $4
Ink + Color - $6
Each additional character to the picture will be an extra $1
Money can be directed to my PayPal account at DrSl33pyp4n7s@gmail.com, and I will be working to get a donation button on my page soon enough.
I will draw any character, any fandom, any paring, het, slash, WHATEVER YOU WANT as long as it remains under a PG-13 rating. Sex is hard to draw.
Please, please, my animals are like my children! It pains me to think of living without them, it would literally feel like the death of a child. I am not ready to live without this sweet and loving boy in my life just yet.
If you cannot donate, I humbly ask you just spread this around as much as you can, tell other people who you know that might be interested that I am taking commissions and direct them to my Ask or my Submit boxes.
Normally I am quite resourceful and I am able to take care of things myself, but this time around the situation has gotten out of my financial reach… I appreciate and I am thankful for whatever help I can get!
So this is my wonderful friend Danielle’s cat and she still needs your help. She’s about $545.57 short of being able to pay for her cat’s medical bills. Please, if you can, help her in any way that you can, even if it’s just signal boosting or donating $10. Every little bit helps.
oh my god i’m crying, i just spent my last money trying to save my cat a few weeks ago, if you are an animal lover and actually have extra dough please please help
I hate that I have no extra cash right now, so I’m passing this on! Please pass this around! I, too, have a little black cat and I love her to death, if this was her I’d want the same. I hope this cat has gotten the help it needs!
